My Brother's Ballgame

The game is on; top of the third. The East Petersburg Indians are in the field. The pitcher winds up and throws one right down the middle. The batter swings...and hits the ball into leftfield! The fielder keeps his eye on the ball...he holds out his glove and catches the ball...then drops it! The runner makes it safely to second.

That was the scene last evening as the East Pete Indians played another exciting baseball game. Why does it matter? My brother Shad plays on that team; that’s why it matters!

Later in the game, when East Pete was up to bat, Shad made a very nice hit and got a double. However, the runner which had been on second tried to make it all the way home, but the fielder threw the ball to the catcher in time to get him out. In the fifth inning, one batter hit a fly ball to centerfield, but Shad was right there, and he caught the ball with no trouble at all! Later, Shad hit a single, but because of the other team’s fumbles, he advanced all the way to third, and two runners made it home!

In the sixth and final inning, the opposing team loaded the bases. Shad was playing shortstop, but the coach brought him in as replacement pitcher to get them out of the tough situation. Shad walked one guy, but struck two others out (not unusual with Shad).

By the way, East Pete lost the game, but still played hard and had a lot of fun. Good game guys!
