A Trip to Gettysburg

Yesterday, my family and I spent the day in Gettysburg, PA, the site of the famed Civil War battle. Gettysburg is nearly two hours west of our hometown, but the drive was well worth it! My younger brothers are avid Civil War enthusiasts, as can be seen from the photos.

First, we stopped at the Visitors Center and spent a few hours looking at each of the displays. Some of the more interesting displays were a desk they believe was used by Robert E. Lee, and a table where it is believed Stonewall Jackson had his arm amputated.

After leaving the Visitors Center, we crossed the street to the cemetery where President Lincoln gave his famed Gettysburg Address. This is the site where President Lincoln is believed to have stood to give the address:

Next on our fieldtrip, we took part of the auto tour of the battlefield. The paved road surrounds the battlefield with monuments and historical markers along the way. Some of the places we stopped were the place of Pickett's Charge, Little Round Top, and the Monument to Pennsylvanians that served in the war.

History comes alive when you stand on the place that it actually happened!
