Sound Effects in the Bible

We all know about the time baseball was mentioned in the Bible. Genesis 1:1, “In the big inning...” (paraphrase) Some of us have heard that Aaron had a hot rod; he drug his rod across the desert. We may even remember that the disciples of Jesus had an automobile. Acts 1:14, “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication...” (emphasis added)

Many people have heard about these examples cited above, but how many have heard that sound effects were used in the Bible? This is one that really happened!

In II Kings 6, the Syrians besieged Samaria, and the Israelites in the city were dying of starvation. The LORD chose to intervene by creating an impressive sound effects collection.

II Kings 7:5, “And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the
Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there. (vs. 6) For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come
upon us.” (emphasis added)
Not surprisingly, God’s sound effects were very convincing – the Syrians fled the camp, leaving everything behind, including food and other provisions. God certainly has His own creative ways of preserving His people in their time of need. We need not worry about whether we can put food on the table or clothes on our backs. Jesus promised to provide these needs if we follow one conditions:

Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
All our needs will be provided by God if we seek His kingdom and righteousness before all else. God doesn’t promise to provide all our wants (or perceived needs), but He has promised to provide what we truly need. Isn’t our God great?
