A Successful Businessman with a Multi-Generational Vision

Last week, at a trade show, my father and I heard an outstanding presentation by Bob Walker, President of Walker Mowers., one of the top manufacturers of commercial lawn mowers. Mr. Walker told the audience about his company’s commitment to family friendly business; Walker Mowers is an independent, family owned business. Money is not the bottom line as it is with most investor-run corporations. What’s more is that they have a multi-generational vision. Mr. Walker, along with his brother, are getting their children involved in the business so they will be prepared to take it over and carry it on to the next generation. This is very unusual in this day and age. Most people do not think more than a few weeks into the future, yet Mr. Walker is thinking about the next generation! Impressive.

All the Walker mowers are made in the USA; they do not outsource labor to foreign countries. Second, they do not have their factory operating around the clock; there is only one nine-hour shift. Mr. Walker said they believe strong families make good employees which makes a good company. He said families can’t be very strong if the employees are working night shifts. I like that philosophy.

Mr. Walker is a professing Christian, and he’s not ashamed to make that known. I think he would be an excellent speaker for Vision Forum’s Entrepreneurial Bootcamp! Comments anyone?

Unlicensed Midwife Could be Fined up to $40,000

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - An activist group that seeks to eliminate restrictions on where women can give birth is coming to the defense of a Lancaster County woman accused by the state of practicing as a midwife without a license.

Diane Goslin is scheduled to appear today at a hearing before the [Pennsylvania] state Board of Medicine, which is considering whether she should be fined up to 40-thousand dollars for attending an Amish home birth in January 2005. Gosline says she has practiced as a lay midwife for 25 years. The state alleges that she is not licensed to practice midwifery, medicine or surgery.
Mrs. Goslin delivered my brother, Shad, over 14 years ago. Please pray that righteousness will prevail. Pray that Mrs. Goslin would be free to continue her lawful and much needed service (without penalty).

New! A Genuine Leather Slingshot

Over 3000 years ago, David slew Goliath with an ancient sling and a smooth stone. The rubber band slingshots of today are not at all like the slingshot David used in Bible times. One would be hard pressed to find a quality slingshot modeled after the ancient type...that is, until now. We are pleased to offer a genuine leather slingshot for the young men of today!

Slingshot close up, IMG This week, I added the slingshot to the S.E.M. web store. It can be purchased here. The slingshot is designed and hand-crafted here in the USA by Shad Eash, shown above and below.

The Way Things Work

I owe a lot to my loving family. Scott Eash Multimedia simply would not be able to operate properly without their support and assistance. Here is a case in point.

Earlier this month, we mailed out a special letter to loyal friends and supporters. My parents and brothers were actively involved in folding and stuffing these letters. I couldn’t have done it without them. Thanks, family!

Thanking God for Providence: 2006 in Review

Dear Friends;

2006 was a year in which we saw the hand of God move in mighty ways. We at Scott Eash Multimedia (S.E.M.) are thankful for the many providences of God in 2006. Please allow me the privilege of sharing some of them with you. I am convinced that God’s providential work in 2006 has prepared us for an even greater 2007!

Who Are We?
What is Scott Eash Multimedia? S.E.M. is a family owned multimedia company with a God-honoring mission: “Equipping Christians for advancing the Kingdom of God.” Where do we start? What is the first step? We must begin by teaching that the Bible speaks with authority to every area of life (II Timothy 3:16-17). This is called a "biblical worldview." It simply means that Christians must view the world and everything in life through the lens of Scripture. Our lives, families, churches, and civil societies must be conformed to the truths of Scripture.

To fulfill this mission, S.E.M. produces and distributes biblical worldview resources. Sometimes these resources come in the form of comprehensive training (films, books, and CDs), and other times they come in the form of theologically-sound media (movies, novels, and radio dramas) that show a biblical worldview in action.

2006 in Review
In January of last year, I outlined three specific goals for the year:

1. Produce and release Autumn Breeze, Winter Freeze, a compilation DVD with two inspiring nature films that honor God as Creator. (This goal was met when the DVD released on May 19.)

2. Launch an Internet web store to put quality, biblical worldview resources into the hands of Christian families. (After months of hard work, our web store began in June.)

3. Produce and release A Defense of God’s Law, a documentary film on the continuing relevance of God’s Law. (Much progress was made on this film in 2006, and we’re anticipating a spring 2007 release.)

Though we didn’t quite make the last goal, I am grateful to God for all that was accomplished in 2006. The web store has been an especially beneficial project. Our year-end survey showed that people really are pleased with what they experienced at our store last year...and they are asking for more! Product categories include “American History,” “For Families,” and “Creation Versus Evolution.” Recently, we added new sections including “Family Films,” “Church History,” and “Civil Government.” These categories were added partly due to the results of our survey. I think many will be pleased as we continue to improve and expand our store in the coming year.

Am I disappointed that A Defense of God’s Law was not finished on schedule? Yes and no. I would have liked to finish the film by year’s end, but I am also glad that God’s providence kept that from happening. Just the other day, I was telling a friend that I was thankful to God for the delays in production. If I had finished the film on my schedule, I would have missed so many of God’s blessings. For example, the 3D animator, the camera operator, the music composer, and the narrator all signed on to help several months after the original production deadline. The film would have suffered if these fine men were not involved in the production. God’s schedule is always better than ours!

The Lord opened up the doors for so many people to help with this film. Many of the crew members were brought to me in ways I can only attribute to the providence of God. A casual e-mail contact led to the recruiting of a narrator; seemingly “by chance” meetings led to other crew members being selected; “accidental” website discoveries provided research materials and artwork. We may mistakenly identify these events as coincidences, but in reality, they are providences of God. Every “chance” happening is really part of God’s providential plan. We must give all praise and glory to the Lord for His grace and work in our lives.

A Defense of God’s Law: film synopsis
Do you want to achieve victory in your family, church, and broader society? This can only be accomplished if Christians return to the abiding principles in God’s Law. Sadly, many Christians think God’s Law is archaic, oppressive, and irrelevant, or that strict obedience to the Law is legalism. Some even think that Jesus and the Apostles repealed the Law. These, and other misconceptions, are answered in A Defense of God’s Law. Watch as God’s infinitely wise Law is defended using biblically-sound arguments.

Why should Christians watch this film?
If you want to be encouraged, equipped, and trained for victorious Christian living, this film is for you. If you aren’t sure what you believe about God’s Law, this film lays out the Scriptures you need to know. If you know the truth about God’s Law, but aren’t sure how to share your belief with others, this is the perfect tool to give to your friends. In easy to understand terms, this film answers common objections to God's law.

This film includes interviews and speeches by Pastor William Einwechter, Doug Phillips, Esq., and Stanley L. Eash. DVD Running Time: approx. 75 minutes

Looking Ahead: Goals for 2007
If the Lord is willing, these are the projects we hope to accomplish this year:

1. A Defense of God’s Law
This film will be released on DVD in early 2007. For current information on this release, please check our website or sign up for our e-mail newsletter.

2. Audio Lectures
I plan to record two audio lectures that should be extremely relevant and helpful. The first will explain the term “biblical worldview,” what it means and why it’s necessary. The second recording asks and answers the question, “when was the beginning?” As Christians, we all agree that God created the earth “in the beginning”, but when was the beginning? Was it billions or thousands of years ago? We must turn to Scripture for the answer. These lectures will be released on audio CD in late 2007.

3. Defending God’s Law Conference
As excited as I am about A Defense of God’s Law, there is only so much that can be covered in a 75 minute film. Once I realized this, I thought to myself that it would be great to organize a conference to go more in-depth in defending God’s Law. It’s just an idea now, but if finances allow and pieces come into place, we would like to have the conference here in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania this fall. I have already spoken to one person who has shown interest in lecturing at the conference, and I have several other speakers in mind. Please pray that the Lord will give us wisdom as we try to determine the feasibility of this conference.

I have many more ideas and plans I would like to share, but they will have to wait. Please pray for us as we continue to seek God for His direction for the year. Please consider partnering with us as we equip Christians for advancing the Kingdom of God! Your prayers and patronage are greatly appreciated.

Your Friend and Brother in Christ,
Scott Eash

Happy 200!

Today is the 200th birthday of General Robert Edward Lee, the famous general of the Confederacy. He was born on January 19, 1807.

Most Americans would recognize General Lee as a great general, but many do not realize that he was also a faithful Christian. His faith in Jesus Christ had a profound impact on his life and the lives of those around him. We sell a documentary in our web store that tells his story in a very moving way. It will be a great encouragement for all who watch it.

A Beautiful Wedding

Last Saturday, December 30, I helped my friend Dale Stoltzfus to videotape the wedding of Michael and Peggy Owens. It was a beautiful wedding; one I will long remember.

Special thanks to Jonathan Einwechter for the great photos!

Target Practice

Last Thursday and Friday, my family visited relatives in Greenwood, Delaware. On Friday morning, we had an opportunity to do some target shooting on the farm. My great uncle (97 years old) has several rifles including a .22 that he bought from my great grandfather many years ago. That's the one we got to use.

My father, my three brothers, a friend named Wade, and I each had several shots at the target. See the results below. We shot from 90 yards.

Here's the target

We are all very inexperienced at shooting (except for Wade). I think we did pretty well for a bunch of amateurs.
