In little more than a week,
Fireproof has grossed more than
Facing the Giants did in it's entire 17 week run. With an estimated $12.5 million grossed
so far,
Fireproof is on track to gross $25-30 million!
This is absolutely astounding. It's unheard of for a low budget, God-honoring movie to reach this level of box office success.
Why is this exciting?
The reason I'm so excited about this is not because of all the money they've made. Money isn't everything. Money is merely a tool God gives us to accomplish a particular purpose. However, I'm excited because these figures indicate that over 1 million people have seen
Fireproof! Over 1 million people have seen the name of the Lord honored on the silver screen. Over 1 million people have seen marriage portrayed as a priceless treasure worth fighting for.
Fireproof runs circles around Facing the Giants
While I personally liked
Facing the Giants (FTG), I believe
Fireproof is much better. Though not a perfect film,
Fireproof far exceeds just about every Christian movie I've seen. I came away in awe of how God has used a church in Albany, GA to create such a powerful, well-crafted movie. The story runs circles around
FTG (especially if you noticed that
FTG seemed to be a rehash of
Flywheel). The acting is superb. The cinematography and editing are excellent. The humor is...well, humorous. Most importantly, the message is powerful.
Powerful!
Fireproof depicts godly manhood
One aspect of the message that stood out to me was the way that godly manhood was depicted. Our feminized culture likes to portray men as weaklings, cowards, lazy bums, and bumbling idiots. Not
Fireproof!

This movie portrays Caleb Holt as a real
masculine man. Yes, he's a tough, strong firefighter, but I'm not just referring to that. After he surrenders to the Lord, Caleb is willing to work hard at fighting for his wife and fighting addiction. He is willing to make sacrifices for the good of his marriage.
Caleb also works hard to win back the heart of his wife, even though she constantly rejects him. What a picture of how Christ sacrificed for the Church, even though He was rejected! Sinners do not seek Christ and try to win His heart. Christ seeks sinners and draws them to Himself. This spiritual truth is vividly illustrated in
Fireproof. Definitely a film worth watching again and again.
